Mep sawing machines as a solution for the production of precision seed drills

Case history

That's how, through the customization of a Tiger 352 NC 5.0 and design of a bar discharger, Mep managed to propose the right solution for an Australian company manufacturing agricultural components.

We are in Australia and the protagonist of this customization is an Australian company market leader in the supply of agricultural components for seed drills: actually, the company is specialized in the production of aftermarket stainless steel components in order to provide a durable product capable of withstanding harsh weather and operating conditions.

The customer addressed to our Australian dealer since he had the need of cutting pipes with a diameter in between 25.4 mm and 76.1 mm, a minimum length of 800 mm and a maximum length of 1200 mm. Moreover, the customer was already in possession of our automatic circular sawing machine Tiger 350 CNC FE, with also semi-automatic mode, for cutting metal solids and profiles - now out of production.

With the goal of optimizing its own pipes production, the company decided to renew its own fleet by buying our automatic circular sawing machine Tiger 352 NC 5.0 and, at the same time, to make this one as versatile as possible by adding the following options: set of comb jaws for bundle cutting and remnant reduction, spray mist system and outfeed chute for bundle comb jaws. 

In addition to the sawing machine, a bar discharger was designed in order to satisfy the customer's needs to cut long tubes in continuous cycle, without the need for the operator to supervise the material unloading.

 
 

Why the automatic circular sawing machine Tiger 352 NC 5.0

The Tiger 352 NC 5.0 sawing machine belongs to our range of vertical automatic circular sawing machines and has always been distinguished for its heavy-duty structure, precision, application flexibility and capacity of cutting with short remnant. This model has been designed for cutting ferrous materials from -45° to +60° and, in addition to the automatic cutting cycle, it can also operate in the semi-automatic mode.

  • The cast-iron structure absorbs vibrations and ensures greater cutting stability and longer blade life.
  • The vector inverter for infinite variable blade speed from 12 to 120 m/min allows to adjust the saw blade speed according to the type of material.
  • The bar feeder powered by a stepper motor is a guarantee of great precision.
  • The turning cutting table is assembled on a central pin and thrust bearing thus allowing an easy and smooth rotation at any angle.
  • Angles scale engraved on the turning table allows to easily perform precise cuts in perfect tolerance at any angle.
  • The adjustable steel anti-burr device clamps the material in the infeed and outfeed, thus granting a burr-free cut.

The addition of the optional set of comb jaws, spray mist system and outfeed chute allowed the customer to: optimize the production of short pipes with small diameters through bundle cutting, correctly unload the cut material when using comb jaws and, finally, optimize the cutting fluid during the cycle.

  
 

Why the bar discharger

In order to completely satisfy the customer's needs, it was necessary to design a bar discharger with automatic operation and easy to connect to the sawing machine. The discharger was prepared to unload profiled or solid pipes with a diameter in between 25.4 mm and 76.1 mm and, at the same time, to contain up to 5 pieces with a maximum length of 1200 mm.

  • The discharger is equipped with two operative laser sensors which detect the presence of the piece. The former is adjustable as it allows to position the piece in correspondance to the selected cutting length (in between 800 and 1200 mm) and to unload the cut piece; the latter has instead the function of issuing a pop-up warning message on the control of the sawing machine, once the container is filled.
  • The safety cover of the unloader is provided with an alarm system.
  • The disconnection of the discharger from the sawing machine is quick and easy and, when disconnected, the discharger can be easily moved thanks to the wheels.
