ALL ABOUT METAL CUTTING AND PROCESSING

MEP solutions for the metal construction world

Mep products mainly meet the needs of two very distinct worlds: metal forming and chip removal industry. Today our focus is on metal forming world and, in particular, on metal construction.

As a matter of fact, metal construction includes a wide range of finished metal products, made through the use of specific processing techniques, machinery and equipment for cutting, forming, welding and finishing. Metal construction processes are essential for any construction work and are split into two main categories:

  • Light metal construction - it mainly consists in thin metal processing such as steel and aluminium that are both suitable for the realization of processing for civil homes (gates, parapets, doors) as well as products for the industrial field (railings, fences, roofs).
  • Heavy metal construction - it consists in metal processing and assembly for load-bearing and large structures. It is mainly used in industry and construction sectors for building of bridges, cranes, silos, pillars, beams, oil pipelines and plants. This category requires greater precision and attention during the design and construction phase since it must grant workers and end users safety.

Therefore, the difference between the two categories consists in the type and complexity of final processing and, at the same time, in the choice of the metals to be used for the realization of the works. As for the finished metal products of metal construction, the main metals used are iron, ferrous alloys, aluminium, copper and brass in the shape of tubes, profiles and beams. These materials are often cut to size - the first stage of the production process - and this makes sawing machines an essential tool for metal construction.

Let’s discover the solutions that Mep can offer for the metal construction world!

Mep for metal construction

Mep offers a wide range of products able to meet the needs of light and heavy metal construction thanks to its sawing machines and material handling system ranges.

As far as sawing machines are concerned, they are divided into two main categories: band and circular sawing machines. On the one hand, the range of semi-automatic and automatic circular sawing machines is characterized by an excellent cut finishing due to the characteristics of the circular blade that grants burr-free cuts at the end of the cut and, at the same time, prevents any re-processing necessary to obtain the finished product. Power and precision are just some of the main features of these machines ideal even for miter cutting on small-medium-sized steel materials and, therefore, for precision works of light metal construction. On the other hand, the wide range of band sawing machines are able to meet cutting needs of both light and heavy metal construction thanks to their remarkable cutting capacity. As a matter of fact, some semi-automatic and automatic models have been designed for heavy-duty works and miter cutting on large metal structures. However, thanks to the versatility of this range of sawing machines, some models can also perform miter cutting on small-medium-sized materials. Both categories of sawing machines are equipped with several options for bundle cutting.

In combination with both categories of semi-automatic and automatic sawing machines, a material handling system has been designed in order to optimize the use of space and resources through a more efficient and effective material management. This line goes from idler and motorized roller conveyors to a wide range of options that can be customized according to cutting needs.
